Traditional Hungarian and Roma music

A group of Roma musicians led by Lajos Sárközy Jr. represents the original meeting point of the musical tradition of the Hungarian Roma and the highest standards of reproduction, which are contributed by training in classical music. The group nurtures Hungarian and classical music and presents new colors that no other Hungarian Roma group has performed before.

Lajos Sárközy Jr. embodies this duality in his own way. The violin virtuoso was born in Budapest into a family of seven generations of musicians, so the violin was practically placed in his cradle. At the age of thirteen, he was accepted into the class for exceptional talents at the prestigious Franz Liszt University of Music, and at the age of fifteen, he won the Hungarian jazz competition for violinists "Gábor Radics" and received an invitation to become concertmaster of one of the most prestigious Hungarian orchestras, the National Philharmonic Orchestra, where had the opportunity to work with the Hungarian legend of classical music, Zoltán Kocsis. In 2015, he was elected leader of the Gypsy Philharmonic Orchestra, after which he embarked on a tour of the USA with Rolling Stones saxophonist Tim Ries. His musical journey is unprecedented and opens up new interpretive challenges to both traditional Romani and classical European music.

All of this is reflected in the performances of the Sárközy group, which with its unobtrusive virtuosity and the luxury of Pannonian feelings, impresses more and more listeners even outside its homeland.
