Slavic soul, Maribor festival and a Japanese name
Let's start at the end. The opening concert will begin with the sounds of Dvořák's popular symphony From the new world. A conclusion that could not better illustrate this year's festival events! Also Festival Maribor 2024 he is venturing into new worlds, the musical map of which he is drawing for the first time Mate Bekavac. And already at the first concert, we will realize that the paths he outlined are excitingly new, different.
Tthe single-minded musician avoids the smooth cobblestones and paved parquet floors and bravely chooses less traveled paths, even those little forgotten, overgrown with grass and tangled with roots. It invites us to take off our shoes and feel the softness of the earth under our bare soles. To breathe in its scent, in which the sweet stuffiness of decay and the sharp freshness of new shoots merge into the eternal circle of life. To dig into the soil, which holds in its safe embrace the centuries-old traces of our ancestors - natives and newcomers, grandfathers and neighbors, immigrants and emigrants, travelers and fellow travelers. He invited everyone to our musical celebration.
Ob the already mentioned Czech musical poet, who with his opus full of folklore motifs and love for the home hearth erected a just monument to the Slavic soul, we will discover the stories of a forgotten fellow citizen Max Schönherr. His heart was stolen by a lighter muse who took him all the way to Vienna, a city that cannot ignore the legacy of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. And look, an attentive ear will also detect the echoes of the Slavic world in the music of the latter.
The very first concert therefore beautifully reflects Bekačev's belief that we must also act in music the same way as in the creation of top-quality dishes: boldly try a wide variety of spices and combine them into new flavors that surprise the palate and caress the soul. Like Slavic Umami. With a name that traveled from faraway Japan to present us with the "fifth taste", which is neither sweet, nor bitter, neither sour nor salty, but - different. Yummy!
SLuvansk soul, Maribor festival and a Japanese name? Of course! Everything is intertwined, everything is connected. Even if the trees appear to be rustling separately from each other, a deeper look reveals that their roots intertwine. Everything is one. We are all one.
