Aljaž Beguš

Aljaž Beguš began his musical career at the Ljubljana Moste-Polje School of Music with professors Jože Kregar and Franc Tržan. At the age of thirteen, he was accepted to the Ljubljana Music and Ballet Secondary School and later entered the Ljubljana Academy of Music, where he graduated in the class of Jože Kotar.

In 2008, he continued his studies at the prestigious Reina Sofia School of Music in Madrid, where he completed his postgraduate studies in 2010 in the class of Michel Arrignon. He is the recipient of five first prizes from the Slovenian national competition TEMSIG and the winner of international competitions such as Citta di Carlino and Marco Fiorindo. In 2005, he received the Student Prešeren Prize and two years later he was a semifinalist in the international Eurovision competition EBU New Talent in Bratislava. In 2014, he reached the semi-finals of the ARD International Music Competition with the wind quintet Spirito. Aljaž Beguš is very active as a chamber musician and has played in various ensembles with musicians such as Mate Bekavac, Dag Jensen, Nicholas Daniel, Enrico Bronzi, Bruno Canino, Dora Schwarzberg, Lorenza Borrani, Alexander Lonquich and Maria Joao Pires. He has collaborated with a range of or chestras, including Ensemble MidtVest, Spira Mirabilis, the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Mozart Bologna, the English National Opera, the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. As a soloist, he has appeared with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the RTV Slovenia Symphony, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the Jena Philharmonic, the Reina Sofia School of Music Chamber Orchestra, the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, the Ljubljana Academy of Music Wind Orchestra and the RTV Slovenia Big Band. As a member oforchestras or chamber ensembles, he has performed at festivals such as the BBC Proms, the Lucerne Festival, Young Euro Classics, the Bolzano Festival, the Mantua Chamber Music Festival, the Salzburg Festival and the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival.

Aljaž Beguš is currently employed as a bass clarinettist in the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
