Janez Usenik developed a serious interest in journalism, the performing arts and the media while studying at the Ljubljana Faculty of Law and continued his professional career in these fields after abandoning his studies.

Night Owl
Between 1997 and 1999, he hosted a programme on Radio Študent, and from 1999 to 2000 on Radio Antena 1. Since 2001, he has worked as a journalist for POP TV, mainly on the news programme 24 ur. He has performed stand-up comedy since 1999, as well as being active as an event organiser, translator, lyricist and screenwriter. He has also ventured into theatre, working as an actor with Šentjakob Theatre in Ljubljana.
Janez Usenik was the co-writer of the film Rustling Landscapes (Triglav Film, director: Janez Lapajne, 2002) and the series Čista desetka (POP TV, director: Branko Đurić, 2012 and 2013), for which he wrote eleven episodes. He is the co-author and principal lyricist of the musical Blossoms in Autumn (director:
Vojko Anzeljc, 2014), the author of the libretto for the musical Veronika of Desenice (director: Marko Plantan, 2016), co-author and lyricist of the musical Vesna (director: Vojko Anzeljc, 2017) and author of the dramatic text Decameron (Šentjakob Theatre, directed by Primož Ekart, 2018).
