Maribor Post Brass Orchestra

According to its mission, the Pošta Maribor Wind Orchestra is no longer just a postal orchestra, but rather a Maribor and Slovenian orchestra. It is one of the best known wind orchestras in Slovenia, successfully representing Maribor in the world. The orchestra has toured the republics of the former Yugoslavia, as well as Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Russia and Spain. It has received numerous international awards and achieved excellent rankings in competitions. Maribor audiences are familiar with the orchestra from its thematic spring and New Year’s concerts, which have been a feature of the cultural calendar
for decades, while the orchestra is also known abroad for its popular theatrical performances.

The orchestra is distinguished by the strong commitment of its members, many of whom persist in the orchestra from their youth to their later years, while several families contribute members from one generation to the next, with as many as four generations in a row. Special mention should be made of the two Hartman conductors, father and son. Ervin Hartman Sr led the band for twenty-six years, beginning in 1937, with a break during the cultural silence of World War Two. His son, Ervin Jr, successfully led the orchestra for fifty-two years, from 1967 to 2019, after which he handed over the conductor’s baton to his younger colleague Aleksandar Čonč, who is also a long-standing member of the orchestra.
