Sarah Akif

She is the recipient of numerous awards at international and domestic competitions. During her studies, she was a regular member of the Slovenian Brass Band and the Berlin-based contemporary music ensemble Neophon. She has given successful solo recitals at the Ljubljana Academy of Music and Jeunesses Musicales Ljubljana, and was a member of the brass quintet OneManBand as well as performing in the international youth orchestras the European Music Campus Orchestra, the Ljubljana International Orchestra, Orchester Norden, the Stanford University Wind Band and the European Workshop for Contemporary Music. Sarah Akif is active as a chamber musician and often collaborates with professional orchestras as a substitute musician (RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, etc.). She enjoys working with young musicians and has been a mentor to young horn players of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra – Summer Orchestra Camp since 2020. In 2023, she was included in the Young Colleagues Project of the Odmev Summer Chamber Music FesARTISTS AND PERFORMERS | 55 tival, within the framework of which three young musicians (students of the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet) collaborated with established musicians with experience in chamber music. In the 2017/2018 season, she performed Strauss’s First Horn Concerto with the Orchestra of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor, and since the 2018/2019 season, she has been a permanent member of the same orchestra.
