At an early age, he participated in various ensembles in a wide variety of genres, from wind bands to rock bands and choirs. He began to engage with more serious music while studying political science in Ljubljana, when he organised regular jam sessions at Hostel Tresor in Ljubljana, resulting in a growing interest in jazz music. He then switched from political science to studying jazz drums at the Klagenfurt State Conservatory with Prof. Klemens Marktl.
Matjaž Skaza is currently active in bands such as Batista Cadillac, Magic Pond, the Andrej Toplišek Quintet, Petsto metrov, the Grega Skaza Organ Quartet and LadyBugz, as well as performing in the children’s music theatre work Peter and the Wolf produced by the Koper Theatre.
