Kekec subscription

The first steps into the world of theatre are the most important, which is why our youngest subscribers take them by attending our carefully selected performances from Slovenian theatres, featuring the best, award-winning theatre artists.

A high-quality offer is key if we want them to grow into a cultured and critically mature audience. We have more than enough knowledge and experience to do that - the cultural offer for children and youth has been one of our top priorities since Narodni dom Maribor was founded. With the Kekec subscription, we have planted the seeds of love forprome culture and theatre in entire generations of children and young people. We are one of the few institutions in the city and region that systematically and continuously provides a theatrical offer for children.

"I'm about to go and plant ..." is a famous song by one of the most famous Slovenian film characters named Kekec, which best illustrates the goal of the subscription aimed at the youngest audience - to open the door to the magical world of theatre and nurture a lifelong love for it.

In order to make sure that the performances from the Kekec subscription leave a lasting impression on curious young minds and stay with them as long as possible, we have enhanced the theatrical experience with creative workshops following each performance. During these workshops, hosted by the experienced mentors of the MARS Maribor Institute, the youngest viewers - still full of impressions - create art inspired by the performance they attended. The workshops are free of charge, and to make the subscription accessible to as many people as possible, we offer free admission to one adult accompanying each young enthusiast. As part of this subscription, the traditional carnival celebration is organised every year, featuring Slovenian musicians who create music for children. Nothing can affect the good vibes of this celebration intended exclusively for the youngest. Not even weather, because it is held in the beautifully decorated General Maister Hall. The final touch is added by creative workshops where children can make their own masks and learn face painting. No wonder it's considered the best carnival celebration in the city. All of the above contributes to the loyal audience of the Kekec subscription, whose numbers are not dwindling — quite the opposite!
