Jazz at Narodni dom

This cycle, inspired by the creative jazz tradition and ethno music mixed with contemporary musical influences, represents a lively meeting point of European, American, African and Asian musical currents. It's a compass pointing at the centre of the current global music scene.

Creativity, contemporaneity, cosmopolitanism and relevance are the qualities that distinguish this cycle, which successfully measures the global musical pulse and originality in the field of jazz and world music.

Since its beginnings in 2000 (when it was known under the name Skrite note - Hidden Notes), it has been a unique platform for exploring contemporary creative approaches to the jazz tradition, because it focuses on the innovative, modern and provocative creativity of musicians whose performances transcend genre, age, geographical, cultural and racial restrictions as well as stereotypes while maintaining its key focus on jazz music. The Jazz at Narodni dom concert cycle goes beyond traditional divisions between entertainment and serious music, composed and improvised music, classical, modern, and avant-garde music, high, sub or pop culture, as well as aesthetic preferences and stylistic labels. The selection of performers emphasises the modernity and timeliness, thus successfully addressing primarily (but not exclusively) the middle and younger generation, ensuring a constant influx of new audiences. At the same time, it is the only provider of such musical content in Maribor with uninterrupted continuity. The fact that not only visitors from various Slovenian cities, but also from Budapest, Vienna, Graz and Zagreb can be welcomed at its concerts testifies to its well-established reputation and success.
