Internal productions

Since its establishment, Narodni dom Maribor has been actively dedicated to its own productions. While classical music concerts still represent the heart of Maribor Festival, Narodni dom Maribor has also produced numerous theatrical successes.

A careful selection of content and genres, expert collaborators, rich production experience, and strong bonds with the most esteemed Slovenian artists have resulted in productions that have successfully conquered stages all across the country.

Some of the most notable productions include Služkinji (1997) featuring Radko Polič, Branko Šturbej, and Alojz Svete; Svet’ večer with Nataša Barbara Gračner and Vlado Novak; the comedies Cinco in Marinko with Vlado Novak and Konrad Pižorn; Svobodni zakon with Nataša Tič Ralijan and Tadej Toš; Ubežnici with Maja Blagovič and Vladimir Jurc; and the children's play Špuk Pogum featuring Jure Ivanušič, Milada Kalezič and Irena Varga. It is also worth mentioning that, in recent years, Narodni dom Maribor has been commissioning and performing new works by Slovenian authors, especially in the field of musical creativity. In doing so, it has been deliberately and continuously enriching Slovenia’s classical music treasury, creating opportunities for already established composers as well as those who are just making their way onto concert stages. Let us mention the children's musical-theatrical production Zvezda in srce (Star and Heart), created for Maribor Festival by Nana Forte and Jure Ivanušič, based on a work by Milan Jesih.
