Fairytale town
Fairytale Town (Vilinsko mesto) is a festival where children take centre stage but its doors are wide open to everyone, as it's free of charge and free from prejudice. It represents the pinnacle of Vetrinjski dvorec's own production, which has been organised every year since 2013 in collaboration with the institutes MARS Maribor and Društvo Hiša!, as well as other cultural organisations.
It's the friendliest corner of the festive city, where good thoughts and wishes dwell and where everything bubbles with curiosity and creativity. A place where imagination reigns and children rule.
The mission of the festival is to provide children, families, and anyone looking for quality leisure activities with a rich, diverse, and high-quality cultural programme throughout the festive month of December. It offers shelter from the widespread commercialisation of the holidays while contributing to the development of Maribor as a creative and family-friendly city. The festival's main venue, Vetrinje Mansion (Vetrinjski dvorec), is transformed into an imaginary fairytale mansion with various scenographic elements and lighting effects. At the mansion you'll find the outdoor Fairytale Stage hosting acclaimed Slovenian performers and ensembles as well as theatrical and puppet shows for children. The main programme is complemented by events held in the Fairytale Hall (the main venue's multipurpose space) and other areas, featuring storytelling sessions, movement, dance, and creative workshops where children develop skills, learn traditional crafts, and explore holiday customs. As a festival promoting openness and inclusion, the Fairytale Town can also boast a wide range of events for children with special needs and vulnerable groups. The winter street theatre festival Ana Mrzla Mariborska further enlivens the streets and squares of the city with its performances. Fairytale Town truly is a different festival! A celebration of creativity and curiosity. A place where imagination sparkles and stories are woven.
